As winter comes in Stardew Valley many players that keep livestock can get worried about how to feed their animals as the grass outside dies, and this is where hay comes in handy. But now, some players might not know how to get the hay in the winter season in Stardew Valley.
You can save some hay before winter by filling up your silos, or you can also buy hay from various sources, like Marnie’s Ranch, to get an immediate stack of hay. However, it can be annoying because of her limited working hours.
In this article, we will go through the different ways you can get the hay in Stardew Valley.
What Is Hay In Stardew Valley?
Hay is used to feed animals in Stardew Valley. It is obtained from dried plants. It can be harvested from Wheat or Grass using a Scythe or a Golden Scythe. You can only obtain hay from Grass if you have an unfilled Silo in your farm.
You must use a Scythe if you want to get the hay out of the grass; if you cut the grass with any other tool you will not be able to obtain hay. Hay is essential if you want your animals to stay healthy and keep going strong.
How To Get Hay In Winter In Stardew Valley?
You can use several methods to get the hay in the winter season in Stardew Valley, so your animals do not starve out. These ways include;
- Buying hay from Marnie
- Preparing enough hay before winter
- Buying grass from Pierre
We will explain each of these ways in detail.
Buying Hay From Marnie
You can buy hay from Marnie in Stardew Valley, but her limited shop time is the problem. She runs her shop from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm daily except Monday and Tuesday. She also does not open her shop on Winter 18. It is located on the northeast of Cindersap Forest. You can buy hay from Marnie for 50g. Though, you will not be able to buy things from her if the building is under construction or is upgrading.
Preparing Enough Hay Before Winter
Another thing you can do is prepare yourself before winter arrives. You can have 3 silos full of hay before winter arrives so your animals will not starve. It can last enough throughout the winter without any animals starving.
Buying Grass From Pierre
Another thing you can do to get yourself through winter is to buy a bunch of grass from Pierre’s General Store, place it on your farm, and harvest it with your scythe.
Though keep in mind that this is a much more costly method, it is just better to buy it from Marnie or prepare yourself before winter arrives, as that saves you the most money.
What If I Don’t Have Any Animals To Care About In Stardew Valley?
If you do not care about your livestock and do not wanna waste money on hay, then fear not! Animals in Stardew Valley do not ever die. Their mood gets lower, and they get less friendly. But you can always fix that by feeding them again when Spring arrives.
You can get hay from several ways in Stardew Valley, but if you do not care about your livestock much, you should not waste your money on hay as animals cannot die if they are starving. However, for the sake of common decency and the game…don’t starve them!
