NieR Replicant ver 1. 22474487139 has a wide array of items and materials to hunt down. Some of these are required to complete optional sidequests, whilst others are crucial for weapon upgrading. Most importantly – there are some that will ultimately be necessary to view all endings.

It’s very likely that on your travels, two particular questions will have come to mind relating to these materials – where do I find them, and do I need to keep them?

To answer all of this and more, here is a complete guide of how to obtain all raw materials along with the specific uses for each one.

How do I increase item drop rate?

Before you start hunting, the best thing you can do is access Word Edit in the menu and equip the Words that boost your item drop rate.

These Words are any that start with ‘Mah’ – with the best being ‘Mahzarken’ which increases item drop rate by a whopping 30%. Generally Words are simply unlocked by beating shades in certain areas, which will occasionally reward you with a new one. By simply killing everything in your way, you’ll naturally unlock most of these. However, Mahzarken specifically is unlocked by defeating the magical shades on the roof of the Lost Shrine towards the end of the game. Before you have this, just equip whatever ‘Mah’ Word you have with the highest boost.

I would suggest leaving these words equipped at all times, and using ‘Bulk Assign’ to equip them to all of your weapons. This way, you’ll naturally collect many of the materials you need without having to farm them as much.

Why do you need raw materials?

Raw materials are generally required to upgrade weapons, and others are handed over to complete certain optional quests. Every single raw material listed here is used to upgrade a weapon at some point. However, it must be noted that there is no obligation to upgrade weapons. You need to obtain all weapons to unlock all endings, but it doesn’t matter if they are not upgraded at all.

The only raw materials you actually need for the endings are 3 Machine Oils, which can be obtained after viewing the first two endings. You also need Eggplants and Goat Hides, which are easily found.

Otherwise, the prize on offer is the Forging Master trophy, awarded once the 33 main weapons have all been fully upgraded. This is a pretty long-winded and tedious task, so take it on at your peril. In any case, this guide will clarify exactly how many you need for your weapon upgrades and quests.

Should I sell raw materials?

This depends. There are uses for the raw materials, but you may have a large surplus of things you don’t need. I’ve broken down every raw material to confirm how many you will need for weapon upgrades, and how many you’ll also need for quests. Any in excess of this total figure can be sold without any worry.

Moreover, I’ve provided details of the weapons that each material will upgrade. Therefore, if you are not interested in the Forging Master trophy and the material is only required for a weapon you never use, you can sell these to earn some much-needed cash… most likely to buy other weapons.

Raw Materials breakdown (alphabetical order)

Here’s a list of all of the raw materials needed for weapon upgrades, with their locations and the quantity needed.

nier replicant how to get all raw materials

Amber

Location: B2 in the Junk Yard, in the winding room with many crates and holes in the floor (pictured above). The best thing about this is that you can drop into one of the holes once you’ve broken all the crates, which will spawn you back at the start of the room and reset the crates. Since you only need 6, farming this way is one of the best ways of making money in the entire game, especially since you may also find other rare and valuable items here.

Also available in the final door of The World of the Recycled Vessel, which is accessed from the diary in your house after seeing Ending A.

Sold at shops:  Yes – the Materials Shop in Facade for a rather steep 6,000 gold.
